Sound Bath Meditation

Soundbath meditation is a deeply immersive, full-body listening experience whereby a practitioner plays a variety of sounds in order to create a relaxing and meditative experience. Most soundbaths will combine a mix of different instruments, as each one gives off distinct frequencies and/or vibrations in order to achieve an ultimate state of tranquility.

Common instruments used in soundbath meditation include:

  • Crystal bowls

  • Chimes

  • Gongs

  • Tuning Forks

Whilst the purpose of the session is to be entirely immersed in sound, practitioners may also talk to participants and guide them in breathwork. This is often helpful in keeping individuals present and to encourage connecting both the mind and body to the entire experience.

The benefits of soundbath meditation can vary from person to person, however, there is certainly a general enhancement of wellbeing that occurs for each person who willingly participates, believes in, and connects with the session. The nervous system tends to quieten as the brain synchronises with the sound, which activates the parasympathetic nervous system and triggers the release of serotonin, melatonin, and endorphins. As we move our busy beta waves into alpha (relaxed consciousness), theta (meditative state), and delta (sleep where healing takes place), we are able to let go and allow for a deep sense of peace.

Overall benefits include:

  • Deepened sense of relaxation

  • Lowered stress and anxiety

  • Improvement in mood and wellbeing

  • Improved sleep

  • Heightened focus and energy
